This week's baby lesson: grabbing.

Over the last few weeks, I've noticed Ford paying a lot of attention to his hands. He holds his fists in front of his face and studies them. Then they usually end up in his mouth (after several bonks on the head). So I'm working with him on grabbing something in front of him. I think it also helps his hand–eye coordination. His rattles are just a little big for his hands, so he doesn't hold on to them very well. But, in my book, he's doing great. I'm already convinced he's going to be smarter than me. ;)

I have one more week of maternity leave, then it's back to work, back to reality. For a long time I was ready and anxious to get back to work. But now with just one week to go, it's really setting in that I won't be spending as much time with Ford, and that makes me sad. I know he'll be in good hands at daycare, and I think he'll like it, but I will certainly miss being with him.

Sweetness

Visiting David at work. I'm trying to get an internship for Ford. ;)

Having fun with our visitors. Corwin likes to give Ford kisses.

Reading a book before bedtime. Ford seems to like his room and his big bed. He's been sleeping through the night since we moved him into his room two weeks ago. Let's hope the trend continues!

Enjoying the beautiful weather!

Kirk and Laura babysat one night so David and I could go on a date. Looks like Kirk had his hands full. ha

Grilling out in March. Who would've thunk it.

Before I head back to work, we made one more trip to Kentucky for a week. The weather was gorgeous, so we were able to get out and about a bit more. But, mostly, we sat around the house and watched the boys play with Ford.

Jennifer and Ford talking

Cooper and Ford taking naps on Granddaddy.

Talk, talk, talk

Video chat with David. Ford loved to see his Daddy on the phone!

Play time with cousins.

Then my mom and "other mom" Beverly came up to Indy for a visit. We went shopping two days in a row, and Ford was a real trooper -- no crying. Shopping really tired him out though, and he was out like a light as soon as we got home. It was so great to have some girl time and get out of the house to enjoy the weather.

Working on an art project for the house.

Watching college basketball but wishing it was football season. (Cutest Packers fan EVER)

Ford is 2 months old today and doing fantastic! He's up to 12 lbs. 14 oz. (75th percentile) and 24.25 inches long (85th percentile). We're venturing outside the house little by little and enjoying visiting with family and friends. This is my last month of maternity leave, so I'm trying to enjoy every single day while I can.

This month, Ford has started sleeping through the night (5 to 7 hours each night), which makes me a much happier (and more rested) momma. He's cooing a lot more, and since he stays awake longer during the day now, we have a lot of fun playing and talking. He's a really great conversationalist. ;)

Morning chit chat with Mom

Afternoon play time

Talking to Nonna

My favorite part of the day is getting him up in the morning. Even if he's fussy because he's hungry, he always smiles really big when he sees me, as if to say, "Hi, Momma, I'm so happy to see you this morning." It's the best way to start the day!

Likes at 2 Months:
  • Music. He loves the music on his safari play mat and his bouncy seat.
  • His teddy bear mobile on the pack 'n play. If we go to bed to read and he's still awake, we'll wind up the mobile so he can watch it spin and hear the music. He LOVES it. He smiles really big and starts talking to the teddy bears.
  • Kids. When Lindsay and Corwin visit, Ford loves to watch Corwin. His face just lights up. It's the cutest thing.
  • Being talked to. He absolutely loves it when you talk to him. He will smile, laugh, and coo for a long time when you talk to him.
Dislikes at 2 Months:
  • Still not crazy about bath time, but he's doing better. The trick is to keep him warm with a wash cloth over his belly and make it quick.
  • Trying on clothes. Because he's kind of long for his age, most of the clothes he should be wearing right now don't fit. That means we usually have multiple clothing changes in the morning so I can weed out the items that don't fit. He'll put up with it for a few minutes, but I always take longer than he'd like.
New Discoveries:
  • He recently discovered his hands! He will stare at them intently and try to get them to his mouth. Of course he bonks himself in the head most of the time, but you can tell he's working hard.
